What better way to spend your Sunday afternoon than an all-ages day show with Massachusetts-based hardcore punk band, A Wilhelm Scream. Despite forming in 1999, A Wilhelm Scream are still going strong, releasing their seventh full length album Lose Your Delusion in 2022 after a hiatus of 9 years.
It was surprising to me that A Wilhelm Scream even made it to Kingston on this run. Kingston receives touring bands from Ontario and the rest of Canada, but hardly ever bands from outside Canada. It’s nice to see A Wilhelm Scream touring the city and putting it on the map for more bands to visit in Canada. At 5pm on a Sunday, A Wilhelm Scream brought all the energy that the crowd desired cohesively into an unforgettable show.
The dynamic of playing this show as an all-ages day show worked really well for a band of this sort with an older audience. You get to play to all of those diehard fans who are now older and have children, without them having to worry about leaving for the evening. You also get to play to future members of this music scene and introduce them to what punk music is all about. Punk isn’t about conforming within boundaries, especially those from within the music industry itself, so yeah, why not play an all-ages day show! As mentioned by the band themselves, it was the most fun they’ve had at a show of this type.
